Situated in a prominent Town Centre location, the proposal at High Street Wickford adds a two-storey upward extension to provide an additional eleven residential units.
The project is conceived as a contextual response addressing the need for additional homes in the surrounding area, while also renovating the existing commercial property on site.
The units were designed through a range of unit typologies, providing 1-bedroom to 3-bedroom apartments with well-proportioned living spaces and access to both private amenity areas and a communal roofgarden.
The design translates the rectangular footprint of the existing property on site for the first-storey of the upward extension, responding directly with surrounding buildings in the urban grain. The second storey implementsa gradual step back from the main façade to reduce visual prominence.
Breaking down the block-form further, the side elevation is punctured with a series of cut-outs to create recessed balconies, adding a contemporary twist to the design.
