A two-storey gymnasium occupies the full extent of a plot in Bromley Town Centre where proposals were sought for a change of use of the property to residential. The site is heavily constrained due to the existing building occupying the full site and therefore restricting the ability to insert windows to provide natural light, ventilation and outlook.
The proposals consisted of a remodel of the building introducing cut outs for private courtyards and new external materials consisting of zinc and timber. The courtyards allow for better quality natural light, ventilation and outlook for the residential units alongside the provision of private outdoor space.
Planning permission was granted by the London Borough of Bromley in August 2021 for seven residential units. UPP are now progressing the technical design and tender for the project in preparation for construction.
